Submission Guidelines

Girl Who Reads is a daily online publication dedicated to bringing great books and authors together with readers. It is read by book lovers around the world. Getting the inside story from authors is one of our most popular features and Girl Who Reads welcomes article submissions from all writers (authors/bloggers), editors, and other publishing industry individuals. Please follow the submission guidelines below to be considered for a featured article. Regrettably, at this time, we are unable to provide payment for submissions.


Current stats (as of November 2021): 1K visitors,  4,936 Twitter followers, 2,981 Facebook fans, 806 Instagram followers, 1664 newsletter subscribers, 343 Bloglovin' followers. A Top 50 Blog according to Blogmetrics.

  • Deadline for article submissions is 2 weeks before the publication date
  • Articles should be between 500 and 2000 words.
  • While articles may have an informal tone (i.e. written in first person), standard journalistic style should be followed. “Thank you, Girl Who Reads, for hosting me” or variations thereof should not be included.
  • All images used should be appropriately credited and sent as jpeg or png files.
  • Girl Who Reads accepts original content and will retain exclusive rights to the article for a period of 30 days from the date of posting. After 30 days, the rights are remanded to the author and may be published elsewhere. 
  • A limited amount of syndicated content is also accepted. Please indicate if the article is original or syndicated.
  • Girl Who Reads is accessible to readers of all ages; therefore, erotica, extreme profanity, and graphic violence in the article will not be accepted.  
  • When submitting articles, please include with the article:
    • Requested date of posting*
    • author bio
    • social media links
    • author photo (highly encouraged, but not required)
    • 1 book or series title to be promoted
  • Writers are free to choose the topic for their article. Below are suggestions that have been popular with readers.
    • Meet the Author - about the author as a person. May be in the format of an interview, fun facts, or anecdotal story about the author.
    • Writing - the craft of writing, including topics on editing and publishing. Also, may be focused on your book - background or interesting facts about the world and/or characters you have created. 
    • Tips/How To - blogging, social media, marketing tips that are useful to authors & bloggers.
    • Fun Stuff - show your creative side with an excerpt, flash fiction, character interview/guest post, game, Top 10 lists, etc.
    • Literary Discussion - critical essays, popular themes in a particular genre, what to read next list, the appeal of a popular genre, other book-related pop culture topics.
    • These are only suggested topics, articles may be on any topic of interest to readers and other writers. Donna is happy to discuss additional topics with the writer.

    • All material must be received 2 weeks before the publication date but may be submitted earlier.
    • We do not accept pre-formatted html posts.
    • Articles are proofread prior to appearing on Girl Who Reads. Minor corrections will be made, any extensive edits will be returned to the writer for approval.

Sponsor a Suprise Pack Giveaway! Occasionally we host a giveaway wherein one person wins a box that includes 1 or more books as well as other book goodies. Sponsors may provide paperback book(s), swag, or other promotional materials (such as cards with a link or code for a free ebook).

  1. Featured Book ($20) This book promo includes cover, back cover summary, 3 praises, and a sample and/or trailer if available. Books with more than 10 reviews on Amazon/Goodreads or a new release (less than 30 days) will be considered.
  2. Sponsored Post ($15) This option includes a mention of Brand sponsoring the post at the top of the post (i.e."This post is sponsored by Author Name") with a link to Brand's website and at the end of the post an image with a short quote and link to Amazon or other site (after the post author's bio and before the footer). 
  3. Newsletter Sponsor ($5) Up to 3 sponsors per newsletter. An ad will include an image and either a 100-word summary or up to 3 praise quotes (sponsor's choice) and 1 link. 

Sponsored Content: Would you like for the Girl Who Reads staff to create a custom campaign that promotes your brand? The selected writer will work with the brand directly to create a custom campaign that meets your needs. A typical campaign includes a combination of a blog post and social shares, though the brand may request just a blog post or just social shares.
