Chandler Hill Inn Series by Judith Keim ~ a Review

by Susan Roberts

The Chandler Hill Books series is set in Willamette Valley, Oregon. This is an excellent area for vineyards and wine and the characters have an inn and a winery in this lovely area. Book 1 is Going Home, Book 2 is Coming Home and the third book in the series - Home at Last will be published in 2020.

I LOVE TO WRITE ABOUT STRONG WOMEN FACING CHALLENGES AND FINDING LOVE AND HAPPINESS ALONG THE WAY

Going Home (Chandler Hill Inn Series Book 1)

January 2019; Wild Quail; 978-0999244869
audio, ebook, print (311 pages); romance
"Some people's lives unfold in the most unusual ways." (p 1)

Going Home is the first book of a light romantic trilogy. It was a fun, easy read and a welcome change from some of the more serious books that I've been reading. I look forward to the rest of the books in the series and keeping up with the Chandler family.

It's 1970 and 18-year-old Letty has run away from her foster family and is trying to start her life over in San Francisco. After four months, some of it living on the streets, she is totally disillusioned with her new life. She meets a nice guy, Kenton, who offers her a job at his father’s inn and vineyards in Willamette Valley, Oregon. She takes him up on his offer and rides with him to what will become her new home. She falls in love with the land and quickly develops a friendship with Kenton and his father. Her friendship with Kenton quickly turns to love and they marry. After a tragic accident, she inherits the inn and vineyard. The book covers her life for 48 more years as she tries to make a success of the inn by making changes and works to establish a good winemaking operation. She works hard and treats other people fairly and in her new life finds a family that will love and protect her. Her only failing is that she is often too busy to spend time with her daughter and their relationship is never close. With hard work and perseverance, she is able to live a successful life full of love and happiness.

This is a light interesting read and I am looking forward to book two to re-connect with the characters at the Chandler Hill Inn.

Coming Home (Chandler Hill Inn Series Book 2)

October 2019; Wild Quail; 978-0999244883
audio, ebook, print (312 pages); romance
"Life is anything but simple." (loc 179)

This is the second book in the Chandler Inn Series. I recommend that you read the books in order to get maximum satisfaction.

Book 2 in the series takes us back to Oregon and the Chandler Inn and winery. Lettie has died and left the land and the inn to her granddaughter Cami. Even though Cami is young, she has a love of the land that is similar to her grandmother's. Cami faces great challenges to learn to run the Inn and the winery but she is resilient and caring like her grandmother and is able to handle all the roadblocks with her 'family' who works there and her memories of her grandmother. She is also helped by her grandfather and Drew. Even though there is an attraction between Cami and Drew, she doesn't want to get involved with anyone after the way her French boyfriend hurt her. As Cami tries to make changes at the Inn and move forward by becoming a wedding venue, she has roadblocks at every turn - from the hotel manager who is taking kickbacks to her French boyfriend who tries to get back into her life. With the help of the employees and Rafe and Drew, she is able to make the Inn and winery a success. Will she find love or will the land be enough to satisfy her?

I am looking forward to book 3 in the series to find out how the Chandler family continues to change in the upcoming years.
