audio, ebook, print (336 pages); romantic comedy

Georgia Rose is going on the reality dating show Love Shack to write an exposé on the producers. It should guarantee the job of her dreams, but last year's one-night stand, country singer Rhett Auburn, is the host. Georgia can't let on that she has history with him, and must fake a romance in front of the camera to stay on the show. Her assignment is unfinished, the executive producer is following her, and the growing romantic feelings for Rhett threaten the future she wanted. But what if she's found something better?

Reality TV is manufactured for viewers and ratings, and this novel plays on that with its version of The Bachelor. Georgia means to have a career in journalism rather than stay freelance, and never believed her amazing one-night stand meant as much to Rhett as it did to her. Amidst the toxic, catty atmosphere, Georgia sees how contestants are set against each other, people are pushed to drink, and personal history is manipulated to look worse for the camera. It serves as the serious undertone for the novel. Georgia's growing feelings for Rhett play against this background, with the very real concern about identity and truth a potential wedge between them. It is a romance novel, of course. We have a happily-ever-after ending that feels well-earned.

Cross Your Heart and Hope He Dies by Jenny Elder Moke

book cover of romantic comedy mystery novel Cross Your Heart and Hope He Dies by Jenny Elder Moke
January 2026; Minotaur Books; 978-1250354990
audio, ebook, print (368 pages); romantic comedy mystery

Juliette Winters had taken care of everything on her own and had no time for romance. She's now landed an interview that will help save her company.  Business magnate Warren Ellingham has guaranteed Juliette exclusive rights to his explosive memoir that promises to expose the secrets of his ultra-exclusive country club, Pacific Pines. When Warren suddenly dies, Juliette suspects that it was murder. She gets Dr. Charlie Hawkins to help her investigate. While there's romantic tension between Juliette and Charlie, other bodies start showing up. If Juliette can't find the true killer, the thing that was supposed to secure her future might just be the thing that ends it.

This book follows She Doesn't Have a Clue, but it's not necessary to have read that one first. It's hilarious, so definitely check it out to flesh out the references at the beginning of this book, but it's not strictly necessary to understand the setup. As part of a struggling publishing house, Juliette is desperate to find the missing memoir manuscript that was stolen. Kate was trying to get Juliette and Charlie together for a while, but now Juliette needs his expertise and means of entering the posh country club, which seems to be the central theme of all the suspects.

As with any murder mystery featuring an amateur sleuth, there are red herrings galore, misdirection, and lots of attitude. I wouldn't call it cozy because another body shows up, but Juliette has a lot of sass, and I loved seeing her point of view as she tried setting up a murder board, protecting her friends, and falling for Charlie without meaning to. She's clever and knows people.

Last First Kiss by Julian Winters

book cover of romantic comedy novel Last First Kiss by Julian Winters
January 2026; St. Martin's Griffin; 978-1250326263
ebook, print (352 pages); romantic comedy

Jordan Carter is fully focused on his job at 24 Carter Gold, but can't help but remember the kiss he had with Jamie Peters when they were teens and the near miss before Jamie said Jordan wasn't the right man for him. Jordan is now working as a high-end wedding planner, but his new assignment's bride has Jamie as her man of honor. The two work closely together, giving the two men a second chance at love.

Jordan can't seem to get past the first date, and he can't get over the past. He's been questioning his sexuality, but the family doesn't know this, and his mother keeps setting him up with women and immediately launching into happily ever after dreams. He's got competition for his job, and he took on a high profile extravagant wedding with a three-month timeline where there are clearly unspoken issues beneath the surface, even without Jamie as the man of honor complicating things for Jordan. He isn't sure about himself or what he wants, and fears rejection; this makes him easily see it in the bride as well.

If you've read I Think They Love You, then you'll recognize the characters here. It's a close-knit family that works together in event planning, and if you haven't read that book, you'll still easily understand this one and the emotional journey that the characters take to find their happily ever after. I liked seeing Jordan and Jamie figure out their relationship, and how others in their orbit were also having their own revelations. It felt like being a part of the family as well.
