Retiree Kitty St. Clair passes away and leaves Jules a dilapidated dance hall, which draws in charming developer Reeve. Selling the dance hall and turning it into luxury condos would allow Jules to afford medical school, but it would drive up local real estate prices and make it harder for locals to live there. On top of that, Reeve ghosted Jules two summers ago. He says he wants a second chance, but Jules can't trust him. She wishes she could ask Kitty for advice the way she used to, and falls asleep reading Kitty's diary. It transports her fifty years into the past, into the dance hall's heyday. Kitty’s past seems to parallel Jules' concerns, and may help her determine her future.
