by Donna Huber

Lady Eleanor Swift has a special royal invitation. She’s got just the right dress and the perfect plus one… But wait! Is that a body by the throne?

Murder at the Royal Palace
is book 23 of the Lady Eleanor Swift mystery series. You can read this as a standalone if you haven't started this series yet.

I find this book to be like a cozy sweater. It is just a pleasant, feel-good read that allows you to escape the real world for a bit. The mystery is good, but the characters are even better.

I have to say since Seldon, Eleanor, and Clifford have been working together, I have enjoyed the books more. They just play off each other so well. I've always loved the "ladies" or "aprons" as they refer to themselves, but in the past, we've only gotten a few sentences on a page or two about them. In this book, they play a much bigger role and promises future prominence for them.

A new character is also introduced that I think is a perfect compliment to them and someone whom Eleanor may create a true friendship with. With the introduction of this character, I realized that she doesn't really have any female friendships. Yes, Eleanor is friends with her staff, but there is always a bit of a barrier between them as they are employee and employer. It would be nice for her to have a friend that she can confide in.

I have always wondered why Eleanor hadn't searched for what happened to her parents. Perhaps it had been addressed in the first couple of books in the series, which I have yet to read, having started the series with book 3. I'm glad to see that she is taking up the mystery now.

If you are looking for a comfort read, then this is the perfect book.

  1. Thanks for reviewing, Donna. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Although I like to think of these books as more akin to a cosy duvet:)
