No Rest for the Wicked was on my list to read for Halloween, but as usual, I put too many books on that list. It would make a great Halloween read if you like for your reading to line up with holidays. But if you just want a high-octane thriller to read now, then you should read this book.
I loved it! It starts off as a low-key domestic thriller. The estranged daughter flies home for the first time since she was 18 because her father is missing. Her half-siblings are happy, if confused, to see her, but her step-mom - not so much. It's a small town, and everyone has their secrets and prejudices. But then the story ramps up, and it becomes a twisty thriller.
Delores is a great character. Even in the beginning, when maybe we aren't supposed to totally like her, I liked her. All the characters are great, even when I didn't like them (the falsely sweet step-mom, ugh). Adams gives such great descriptions of the characters that they seem very real.
I loved just about everything about this book. The only thing I didn't love - the cats. Partly because the community cats weren't really portrayed as true community cats. The officer had no problem getting them into crates - if only it were that easy.
It was a book I didn't want to put down.
