Murder at Sea by Helena Dixon ~ a Review

by Donna Huber

Devon, 1938. Kitty Underhay is enjoying a well-deserved rest when her very upset cousin Hattie suddenly bursts in. She sobs that the gentleman she had been seeing, Richard Westonholme, seems to have vanished, taking all of her jewellery with him. As Hattie describes Richard, he sounds eerily familiar, and Kitty and her husband Matt board a ship in hot pursuit – only to find him lying in a lifeboat… dead.

Murder at Sea
is the 23rd book in the Miss Underhay series. But it is okay if you are just now discovering this cozy mystery series. If you have been reading this series for some time, you might not realize this is a new book since Murder in New York also involved a ship crossing. This book, however, takes place almost completely on the ship - it's murder and espionage on the high seas!

There has been an overarching mystery running through the last few books. But if you haven't read them, we are given enough background in this book that you can jump right in. I kind of found the ending of this mystery to be a little disappointing. I would have liked more of a confrontation.

As the date crept closer to the start of World War II, I wondered how this series would handle it. There is a little preview of what kind of role Matt might take in the upcoming war.

I like Kitty and Matt together, and we get to see them together a lot in this book since there are only so many places to be on an ocean liner.

I know the cover shows Kitty in short sleeves, but this is not a summer vacation. It is like January on the Atlantic. It is COLD!

I suspected the murderer pretty early on, but it is still a fun, light read.
