Fliss Chester has a new cozy mystery series set in present-day Cornwall. Maddie's life isn't really going anywhere in London, and her grandmother needs help with her teashop. A nice little vacation in the English countryside sounds just like what Maddie needs.
The missing clotted cream seems to be the biggest conundrum Maddie will face. That is, until a man covered in blood stumbles through the door.
If you have ever dreamed of owning a little teashop (or coffeeshop), then you will enjoy the setting of this book. You can dream alongside Maddie about how to make the business profitable.
I totally got a Father Brown vibe while reading this book. I loved the characters. The Inspector made me think of DS James Hathaway from the television show Inspector Lewis. I kept picturing Laurence Fox (who played Hathaway) any time the Inspector is mentioned.

There was one scene that felt out of place. Supposedly, this is a small town where everyone knows everyone. So it felt wrong that they would arrest Nora just to question her, and they didn't consider that she was an elderly woman who had been scammed. It didn't fit with how the rest of the book was playing out. Perhaps it was just to be a device to temporarily drive a wedge between Maddie and the Inspector, as it did feel like something you would read in a romance novel.
It is a fun, cozy mystery. If you are looking for a new series and like to start with book one, then you should add it to your reading list.

The audiobook is well done. Harrie Dobby does a great job of reading it. I had no problems following the storyline, and the characters each had a distinct voice.
