March 2026; Titan Books; 978-1803368528
print (296 pages); art book

Part of the Infinity Saga series of art books, this one includes all of the art for the Black Panther movie. Wakanda is the reclusive nation that had been hidden from the rest of the world, yet has fantastic and advanced technology as well as the metal vibranium, which is from a meteor that once fell in the country. This background is present and influencing the costumes, set design, and even the script that Ryan Coogler had helped to write before he directed the movie. As he explains in his foreword, "to be African is to be respectful of nature," and to revere family and culture. All of this truly plays out, even in the early planning stages for the movie.

I really enjoyed seeing the maps, landscapes, and the different tribes present within the fictional country. I knew from different posts and interviews at the time that they were influenced by current cultures. Each of these fictional tribes in Wakanda has a specific tribal influence and color palette, as well as a role within the country. Between the different costume designs for the major characters and locations are descriptions and details that didn't always make it into the movie. You can quickly go through the book, and I suggest going back over it in more detail to really absorb and enjoy the effort everyone put into not only the incredible work done by art teams and costuming, but also putting the work into book form. If you loved the Black Panther movie, this is definitely a book you'll want to pick up.

The Art of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach by Kojima Productions

February 2026; Titan Books; 978-1835411971
print (240 pages); art books

Hideo Kojima created the worlds for the games Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2. This art book specifically addresses the sequel, another journey to save humanity from extinction. We have concept art for characters, the equipment, locations, and creatures that players face in the game.

If you've heard of this game but haven't played it, you're not alone. Even so, this is a fascinating introduction to the franchise. It's a stunning collection, and the artists are incredibly talented. I had no idea how much goes into the art design of a game, and every facet is looked at with an eye to the purpose, part of the story, and what it looks like.

Kojima Productions designed and developed the game, and there are many stories where the hero must save humanity from extinction. We don't get a specific summary of the threats or character backgrounds in the final game at the start of the book, so if you have no idea what it's about, like me, just take this as a visual tour and look into it later.

This world has enemies and obstacles specifically designed for the game, and this art book collects the designs that were used, as well as ones that didn't. The pages include notes about why design changes were made, and there's an incredible amount of detail put into each character. Even the tread on the boots was sketched! With characters spanning the globe, thought was put into environmental factors for costumes, as well as potential back stories. Some of the creatures are the stuff of nightmares, so mission accomplished on that front. This book is definitely a must for Death Stranding fans.

Born and raised in New York City, M.K. French started writing stories when very young, dreaming of different worlds and places to visit. She always had an interest in folklore, fairy tales, and the macabre, which has definitely influenced her work. She currently lives in the Midwest with her husband, three young children, and a golden retriever.
