The Hitwoman and the Gold Digger by @JB_Lynn_author ~ a Review & Giveaway

by Donna Huber

The prize.
Today, I have my review of book 19 in JB Lynn's hilarious hitwoman series. The Hitwoman and the Gold Digger comes out on Thursday. Also, to celebrate the book birthday of Further Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman (book 2), which released on this date in 2012, JB Lynn is offering the above-pictured keychain to one lucky winner so be sure to enter the giveaway below.

How The Hitwoman and the Gold Digger begins...

You know it's going to be a bad day when the phone rings at 3:24 in the morning. I mean, is there anything else that can simultaneously trigger the thoughts of "where am I" and "someone died"? Needless to say, my heart was beating triple time and I was barely about to choke out two syllables. "Hello?"

My thoughts

The Hitwoman and the Gold Digger
October 2018; ebook (160 pages)
cozy mystery
I have loved this series since the beginning, but I don't think I actually have a favorite. I've enjoyed them all equally. However, I felt like The Hitwoman and the Gold Digger might be Lynn's best yet. Maybe it was the elapse of time since the last one (book 18 came on in May of this year). At one point it felt like she was releasing a new one every month or so. I think I like having the releases spread out a little more.

The craziness is at an all-time high with Maggie in charge of the family while Susan and Lawrence are away on their mystery trip. However, it isn't so much the family causing the chaos, but Armani. I find it kind of funny that the owner of Psychic Matchmaking Service is using a dating site to find love. And unfortunately, it isn't love she finds.

If you haven't started this series, you are probably feeling like you couldn't start a series that has 19 books in it. But they are really quick reads. I read this one in a day without even trying. I started with breakfast, went to church, fixed lunch, cleaned the house, scheduled blog posts, and then settled in with it again in the evening. I didn't even have to stay up past my bedtime. I think it would be fun to binge read this series.

I mentioned in my review of The Hitwoman in a Pickle (read my review) that things were changing for Maggie. I've been saying it for the last several books that Maggie has grown up over the course of the series. If you've missed that vibe, there's no denying it in this book. Between her family and friends, there is still plenty of crazy situations Maggie can find herself in. This book attests to that.

If you are looking for something fun to read, then this is definitely a series for you.

  6. It is a fun mystery series. I love the twists of how the mysteries are solved. They don't usually turn out the way you expect (it is usually more hilarious).
