This wonderfully written novel takes place in the Outer Banks of NC and is about a wedding dress that is passed down from each generation to the next. It's told in alternating chapters by the three main characters Kendra, Bree and Lauren. They were all once very close but now are at different places in their lives. Will the family wedding dress help bring them closer together?

Kendra is Lauren's mom and has been hiding a secret from her daughter for her entire life. Lauren is a well-known author and lives in NYC. She's just become engaged to Spencer and wants to get married at home wearing the family wedding dress. Bree was her closest friend growing up - almost like a sister because her mom helped raise Bree when her parent's left. Bree still lives in the Outer Banks with her husband and two children and owns a book shop. Due to a major betrayal at the end of high school, Bree and Lauren haven't talked to each other in many years. Kendra sees the family wedding dress as the perfect way to help Bree and Lauren become friends again but when Lauren's secret comes to light will it cause just the opposite effect?

My Ex-Best Friend's Wedding is a well-written beautiful story with some funny moments in it. It's basically a story about love and family and forgiveness - depending on the people you love to help you through the rough parts of life. It's also about the importance of strong friendships between women.

An extra bonus to me was that the author mentions in her notes at the beginning of the book that the novel was inspired by a wedding dress in her family that has been passed down through the generations.
