Destress with These 4 Romance Novels from Michelle Major

by Susan Roberts

When life gets stressful, it's fun to pick up a romance novel.  They are usually light and fluffy, easy to read and you know that there will always be a happily ever after ending.  I find romance novels to be a fantastic stress reliever.

Her Texas New Year's Wish by Michelle Major

Her Texas New Year's Wish
January 2021; Harlequin; 978-1335404589
ebook, print (288 pages); western romance
"You have to keep your heart open...You never know when love will find you."
(p 13)

This romance novel is the first book in a new series about the Fortune family.  There are four men and four women in this blended family and book 1 is Wiley's story.  Wiley always felt separate from the rest of his family so even though his brothers and sisters are in Texas, he went to law school and took a job in Chicago.  He makes a trip to Texas to celebrate at a family birthday party that takes place in the Fortune's almost finished hotel.  Though he has resisted falling in love, when he sees Grace across the room, she sparks an interest in him.  When she is hurt in an accident at the hotel, he steps in to help her out.  Grace was working hard to become the general manager of the new hotel and was afraid that her accident would take her out of the running but she is also skeptical about the attention from Wiley.  is he really interested in her or is his interest to keep her from suing the hotel for injuries?  Both Wiley and Grace are reluctant to start a relationship but their feelings for each other continue to grow.  Will he go back to Chicago or will their romance flourish in Texas?

This was a perfect book to read to start out the new year - a nice fluffy romance with a happily ever after ending.  Plus the beginning of a new series about an intriguing family in Texas.  I am looking forward to the rest of the books in the series.  I enjoyed the romance between Wiley and Grace and can't wait to see what happens when the other members of the family fall in love.

His Secret Starlight Baby by Michelle Major

His Secret Starlight Baby
February 2021; Harlequin; 978-1335404701
ebook, print (288 pages); romance

Nothing's better on a dreary day than to wrap up in a blanket with a warm cup of tea and a sweet romance with a happy ending.  This book was a fun and well-written romance with enjoyable characters.

Jordan is a retired NFL player who had gotten hurt and left the league to find a quieter life. He ended up in Starlight and owned a bar.  It was more than just a sleazy bar because they had some of the best food in the area thanks to his cankerous and sometimes rude chef.  He's happy with his solitary life and then it all changes.  Cory, the girlfriend of one of his teammates that he had a one night stand with shows up in Starlight with a baby.  She offers a dna test to prove it's his but the baby looks so much like him that he had no doubts.  Can Jordan and Cary create a family out of the chaos of their lives and be good parents to their baby or will the fake relationship that they are presenting to friends and family deteriorate and cause them to split up??

This was a great little romance.  I like both of the main characters and the story was written with very real circumstances that made it all more interesting.  This book is part of a series but can definitely be read as a standalone.

The Last Carolina Sister by Michelle Major

The Last Carolina Sister
March 2021; HQN; 978-1335419972
audio, ebook, print (352 pages); southern fiction
The Last Carolina Sister
is the last book in the Magnolia Sister trilogy.  It's the perfect ending to the series about love and family connections and support.

Avery, Carrie, and Meredith are half-sisters who never knew they were sisters until their father died and mentioned them in his will.   Avery and Carrie found love in the first two books of the trilogy and now it's Meredith's turn.

Meredith runs an animal rescue and shelter on the farm that she inherited.  She dreams of expanding it and offering classes but is so convinced that she is a failure at life and that everyone knows it, she just doesn't try because she's scared of failing again.  When she meets Ryan, an ER doctor from DC, she is drawn to him but knows that he couldn't be interested in anyone like her.  Ryan is taking a leave from his job to heal from a gunshot wound that happened in the ER.  He can't wait to get back to the big city but the longer he stays in Magnolia, the more he is drawn to small city life and to Meredith.  Can they both learn to forget their pasts and have a future together?

This is a feel-good romance with a happily ever after ending.  It was interesting, easy, and fun to read.  I've enjoyed the series and getting to know more about these sisters in Magnolia. Great romance!

A new book by Michelle Major is the perfect antidote for a stressful day.  Her books are relaxing and make you feel good about life.  This is the first book of a new series called Carolina Girls and takes place in Magnolia NC.

Emma's marriage ended and she went to Magnolia to visit her brother.  She enjoyed it so much that she decided to stay and convert an old house into a bed and breakfast.  Her plans were on schedule until a storm and poor workmanship by the contactor caused considerable damage to the house.  She needs to get the house ready to host a wedding for her new friend Holly.  Holly convinces Emma to see if her brother-in-law can be hired to fix the house up.  Cameron has become a recluse after the death of his wife (Holly's sister) but he'd do anything for Holly so he agrees to work on the house.  What no one expected were the sparks that flew between Emma and Cam who were both avoiding relationships.  Will they be able to forge a relationship that will allow them to forget the pain in their pasts?
