This is the second half of the duology started with Hollow. Absolutely, read that one first; this one starts where that book left off. Also, pay attention to the warnings, because this one is darker and spicier than the first book, with D/s dynamics, rituals, and physical relationships between all members of the trio. The trio knows that the Horseman is possessing Brom, and now they're doing what they can to figure out a ritual to separate them. At the same time, they're trying to avoid any physical issue between Brom and Kat to stymie the coven's insistence on having that child. Their initial efforts don't quite work, of course, which means more sex magic, blood work, and dodging the coven's threats.
I enjoyed the story as well as the spicy aspects of this book. They aren't all present just because it's that kind of dark romance book, but because it's a means to show the level of trust and love that Kat and Crane have for each other, that Kat and Brom have, and that Crane and Brom feel for each other. The three are together for the rituals, but also for each other in ways that matter as the ante rises throughout the book. There's genuine love there, which helps get them through the horror planned at the school and achieve a happily ever after.
