Someone to Love

ebook, print (294 pages); romance

I’ve got four weeks to cross one thing off my bucket list—and it isn’t exactly PG.

Sadie is the person who takes care of dogs in her small town. She boards them and trains them and seems to have a better understanding of dogs than she does of men.  But life has just gotten more complicated - her sister is marrying her high school crush, and she just can't go to the wedding without a date.  Then Ian moves in next door - an ex-NFL star and his young daughter, who is not thrilled to be living in a small town with a father whom she barely knows.  Soon, Sadie is mentoring Riva and teaching her how to take care of dogs.  She finally gets up the nerve to ask Ian to be her fake boyfriend and attend her sister's wedding as her date.  Ian agrees despite the fact that he's not interested in a relationship, but because of how much help Sadie has been with his daughter, he can't say no.  Can these two people who think that they will never have a happily ever after, find love and romance with each other and become a real couple instead of a fake couple?  The sparks that fly between them make it look like a sure thing, but there is a lot of emotional baggage to get through before they can find happiness.

Recommendation

Someone to Love is a small-town romance at its best.  The characters are fun and the romance sizzles.  Plus, there is a happily ever after ending that will make the readers jump for joy because the couple is so perfect together.

I loved the relationship between Sadie and Ian, the relationship between Ian and his daughter, and I especially enjoyed the supporting friendship that Sadie had with her book club pals!

This is going to be an exciting new series from Michelle Major.

ebook, print (314 pages); romance

Work hard. Do the right thing. Be a good girl. That’s how I survived growing up with a scandal-magnet mother and a brother who treated troublemaking like a part-time job. I thought if I followed the rules, I could outrun the chaos.

Iris is a member of the book club from book one.  She is the interim mayor of Skylark and wants to be voted into office at the next election.  She is going to have a tough time because Skylark is a small town full of festivals and town fun, and Iris is seen as a person who is NOT a lot of fun because some of her main goals - like improving the library - will take money out of the town budget that is spent on the fun events.  So, Iris, with the help of her friends, decides to try to figure out how to have fun.

When Iris decides to learn ballroom dancing as a way to find fun, she is upset to find out the man who will be her partner is Jake.  Jake was one of her brother's best friends, and both boys got into a lot of trouble in high school. Iris blamed Jake for ruining her brother’s reputation despite the fact that she used to have a major crush on him.  Jake has just returned to Skylark, and she hates him - doesn't want to be around him or speak to him.  But is she strong enough to avoid the sparks that are flying between them every time they dance?

Recommendation:

Someone to Tempt is a small-town, enemies-to-lovers, second-chance romance with a HEA ending. It sizzles with romance as Iris and Jake spend time together and begin to understand each other.

It will make readers laugh out loud while they are rooting for the romance of the main characters.  The romance sizzles, and the HEA ending will make everyone smile.

Someone to Have

July 2025; Romilda House; 979-8992746020
ebook, print (316 pages); romance

I’ve spent my life hiding in the quiet corners of the library. It’s safer surrounded by books where the happily-ever-afters are guaranteed. Real-life romance? Not so much.

Taylor works at the library and part-time at the high school library.  She has a major crush on one of the teachers at the high school, and they are friends, but she's too shy to let him know she's interested in him.  She has a poor self-image and never sticks up for herself, thanks to her family.  Her brother and sisters were both very athletic, and the family revolved around their activities.  Since she was more interested in books than sports, she was constantly teased by her brother.  She decided that the item she wanted to work on for her bucket list was to learn public speaking so that she could try out for the play that her crush was directing.

Then Taylor meets Eric again - a world-class hockey player and a friend of her brother.  There are some immediate sparks between them, but she lets him know pretty quickly about her crush.  He agrees to help her learn her lines for the play and help her attract the attention of the teacher.  His methods are pretty unconventional, and she soon begins to wonder if she has a crush on the wrong man. Now that Eric has taught her how to express her feelings...will she be able to tell him how much he means to her?

Recommendation

I loved both of the main characters.  Taylor felt so unappreciated by her family that she had learned to keep her thoughts and feelings to herself.  And Eric - wow - not only was he a handsome and athletic guy, but he was taking care of his sister in rehab and keeping her teenage son while she was gone, but he also really went to bat for Taylor - helping her with her bucket list goal and helping her learn to express her feelings to her family.

Someone to Hold

book cover of romance novel Someone to Hold by Michelle Major
October 2025; Romilda House; 979-8992746037
ebook, print (304 pages); romance

She’s the one woman I can’t let myself want.

The bucket list challenge between the good friends in the book club continues in this new book in the Skylark series.  This time it's Molly's turn.  She is a young widow with seven-year-old twins.  She has a flower business on the land that belongs to her mother-in-law, and her goal is to continue saving money and to make plans to buy the land and grow her business.  But her mother-in-law has other plans and has decided to sell the land and insists that Molly and the kids move to Albuquerque once she returns from a trip.  When Molly breaks her ankle, her mother-in-law decides to ask her deceased son's best friend, Chase, to help Molly.  The only problem is that Molly doesn't want to ask for help and certainly doesn't want help from Chase, whom she strongly dislikes, since she overheard Chase advising her soon-to-be husband not to go through with the wedding.

The strong feelings that Molly has for Chase make it almost impossible for him to help her until she realizes that she really does need help and agrees that he can help her on a limited basis. Even though Molly and Chase are enemies, the sparks begin to fly between them.  He supports her plan to buy the land, but is hiding a big secret from her that could easily bring their romance to a screeching halt.  Can Chase and Molly be honest with each other and build a happily ever after from their distrust and dislike?

Recommendation

I enjoyed both main characters and the way their opinions of each other changed as they go to know each other better.  This was a fantastic addition to the Skylark series.

Someone to Stay

January 2026; Romilda House; 979-8243754668
ebook, print (286 pages); romance

NFL superstar Felix Barlowe was never supposed to be the one.

A slow-burn, banter-packed small-town romance about a grumpy NFL single dad, the sassy nanny he never wanted, and the one unforgettable night that leads to the surprise of both their lives.

Piper hated Felix - he was all that she despised in a man.  Despite that, they had a drunken one-night stand and then walked away hating each other even more.  Problem -- Felix is the brother of Piper's brother-in-law!

She goes to her sister's secluded cabin to try to figure out her life.  She's pregnant with Felix's baby and isn't quite sure how to handle it because he has told her that he never wants children.  In the middle of the night, Felix shows up at the cabin with a 2-year-old girl - the daughter of his best friend who died in a car accident.  Felix never wanted children and is looking for a family member so that the toddler can be raised by someone else.  When Piper and Felix meet again in the middle of the night at the cabin, there's a lot of trash talk between them, and both are convinced that they still hate each other.  However, love and hate are two feelings that can change.  Once Piper sees the way he takes care of the little girl and finds out that he bakes bread as a hobby, her feelings towards him begin to change, but she still doesn't want to tell him about his baby that she is carrying.  As the sparks begin to fly between Piper and Felix, they need to change their perceptions of each other and decide if they are both looking for a happily ever after.

Recommednation

Someone to Stay is another wonderful addition to the Skylark series.  I love the group of friends that are the center of all of the books - they love each other as they encourage each other to try new things.  As busy as they all are with their lives, they are always available when one of their members has a problem.

If you like grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers romance with forced proximity, found family, and all the slow-burn heat, this one's for you.

Someone to Keep

book cover of romance novel Someone to Keep by Michelle Major

She just watched her whole life go up in flames. He's a socially awkward billionaire who considers "friendly" a four-letter word.

Someone to Keep is book 6 in the series, and the stories keep on getting better.  It’s now time for Avah and Jeremy’s story.  During the first books, they both appeared to be happy and successful with their lives.  She had a fantastic job, a rich and sexy boyfriend, and despite problems in her earlier years, her future looked golden.  Jeremy is   Sloane’s brother, and when he starts to help her deal with her cancer, he comes across as controlling and arrogant.  Avah doesn’t like him at all and makes no secret of her feelings towards her best friend’s brother.

Until everything changes…Avah and her fiancé are on a trip at a Caribbean resort, and after he hits her, she walks out and collapses on the beach.  Who comes to her rescue??  It’s Jeremy who is at the same resort, trying to close a business deal.  Even though they appear to be enemies, Jeremy takes her back to his bungalow and convinces her to stay while she heals.  They say that hate and love aren’t too far apart, and it’s definitely the case here.  As they begin to spend time with each other and get to know each other, the sparks between them begin to fly – slowly at first, but soon their feeling towards each other ignite.  But just when Jeremy seems to be breaking the walls that Avah keeps up around her heart, she leaves to go home with the walls firmly back in place.  Jeremy, who can handle business and money with no problems, isn’t quite sure how to handle the feelings that he has for Avah.  When they get back to Skylark and begin to interact with each other more, their relationship turns hot, and then they have to decide how to deal with life.  When Avah’s past begins to affect their relationship, they both have to decide what’s really important in their lives and how they will handle the love that they have for each other.

Recommendation

I enjoyed seeing both characters change during the book.  They both had problems dealing with other people – Avah handled it with sarcasm, and Jeremy handled his past problems by burying himself in his job.  This is a fantastic story with some hot sex and a happily ever after ending.  It’s a tremendous addition to the Skylark series.

Someone to Claim

book cover of romance novel Someone to Claim by Michelle Major
July 2026; Romilda House; 979-8187265312
ebook, print (260 pages); romance

I spent fifteen months letting cancer define me. Now I'm hiking into the Montana wilderness to track down the author whose book kept me going in my darkest days and to prove I'm more than the girl everyone has to worry about.

This is the seventh and final book in the Skylark series, and I’m going to miss reading about the close friendship between the woman and seeing the changes that each one of them goes through as they complete their item from their bucket list.  The original goal was that each member of the book group would not only accomplish something from their bucket list, but it had to be something that they were terrified to try, and all of them grew as people and found their soulmates while they were getting to their goal.  Now it’s Sloane’s turn.  Sloane was the person who owned the bookstore and who brought this group of women together to help her through her cancer diagnosis.  Now it’s her turn to make a change in her life that scares her – but will she find her soulmate and get her happily ever after?

Sloane first met Jensen at Vanderbilt Hospital, where she was getting a second opinion on how to treat her cancer.  She needed some change in her life, so they had a one-night stand, and she never even gave him her real name.  She ghosted him and disappeared.  Later, she found out that he was a singer and often volunteered in cancer wards.  When she saw him at a benefit, she left immediately, but he saw her and had been looking for her all year.  He finally found her in Skylark, but she rebuffed his advances.  Her bucket list item was to hike into the Montana wilderness to track down the author whose book kept her going in her darkest days and to prove to herself that she was more than the girl everyone has to worry about.  She was very surprised when Jensen showed up on the trail – thanks to information from her friends – and didn’t want to lean on him – this was her way to prove to herself that she was a strong person and could take care of herself despite the cancer.  But hearts and minds don’t always agree, and the sparks between the two of them were strong.  There was a real problem because she wanted to take care of herself, and his role in life had always been taking care of other people.  Can they overcome their basic attitudes and have their happily ever after??

Recommendation

This book was the perfect ending to the Skylark series. Sloane had been such a part of her friends’ lives, and it was great to see the changes that she went through as she completed her bucket list item.  Not only was she a great character, but Jensen was quite a guy – not only good looking and sexy but also caring and nurturing.  This was a great ending to a fantastic series.
