Key Largo Blues by Lynne M. Spreen ~ An @Audible_com Review

by Donna Huber

Usually, it is Susan who encounters the great women's fiction books with mature characters, but this time I got to recommend a book to her. Although this is book 2 in the Karen Grace series by Lynne M. Spreen, I didn't have much trouble connecting with the cast of Key Largo Blues.

Key Largo Blues
March 2018; print, ebook, audio (8h13min)
women's fiction
Karen Grace, in her 50s, has taken up residence in an RV and driven cross-country to in equal parts re-discover and re-invent herself. (I'll have to admit to entertaining the idea of packing up everything and traveling around the country in an RV). I'm not in my 50s, but when I am I'll have my years in and will be able to retire. Like Karen, I'll be able to embark on a new career and I hope I have her determination.

This book is squarely in the women's fiction genre. In addition to Karen, we have the CRS ladies that she travels with and later the granddaughter and her baby of Karen's friend shows up needing a place to live after fleeing an abusive relationship. The friendships these women have is what makes a great novel in this genre. They are all wonderful characters that add to the story.

While there are men in the book, I love how the women are strong and independent and not reliant on the men to fulfill their dreams. There is romance; there's even a pretty sweet reunion scene towards the end.

The story is well-written and the narrator Jennifer Jill Araya does a great job with the audiobook.
