audio, ebook, print (347 pages); women's fiction
Hadley is in an abusive marriage and needs to escape.  When the chance comes, she grabs her teenage daughter and her special needs nephew that she raised and gets out.  First, she needs money, so she breaks into her husband Frank's office to look for his safe and take what she feels is rightly hers.  While there, she is surprised by Grace.  Grace worked for Frank and was going to get fired.  When her gambling husband loses their rent money, she knows that it's time to start over.  So she takes her infant son, Miles, and breaks into her boss's office to get the money that she feels is owed to her.  Hadley and Grace don't immediately like each other but decide to try to escape to a better life together.  At first, they aren't sure how much they want to protect each other but both of them want to protect their children.  As their manage to escape the FBI and Frank, their friendship and trust in each other continues to grow.  The trip that the two women take is filled with danger and they aren't sure how to escape but their road trip is a real page-turner as they encounter danger at every turn.

This book is a real roller coaster ride as the two women try to protect their children and escape from the people pursuing them.  More importantly, it's a book about self-discovery, about learning how much they are capable of and what strong women they really are, much to their surprise.  It's also a story of love and friendship and creating a family out of love.  This is the first book in a long time that kept me up way past bedtime while I rooted for both women and hoped for their success.
