Burglary at Barnard by Lynn Morrison ~ an Audiobook Review

by Donna Huber

Last week I reviewed the first book in Lynn Morrison's Oxford Key Mysteries series. Book 2 Burglary at Barnard is now available as an audiobook as well. I love listening to cozy mysteries as you get a fun story and a few minor distractions won't cause you to lose the plot. I listen to this one while getting Christmas out of the closet.

Burglary at Barnard
November 2021; The Marketing Chair
audio (8h 32m), ebook, print; cozy mystery

I was hoping since burglary is in the title that there wouldn't be a murder as I like when a cozy mystery takes a different approach to the typical murder mystery. But within like five minutes of the story starting, Natalie is once again stumbling over a dead body. I think this is the fastest a murder has ever occurred in any cozy mystery I've read. The fact the murder happened so early means we don't really get to know the victim.

In my review of book 1, I mentioned that I felt like the focus was more on world-building than the mystery. But now with book 2, where there is more focus on the murder, I think because we don't really know the victim the mystery isn't as memorable - I forgot who the victim was at one point.

There is a burglary as the title implies and it is tied to the murder so I won't comment on it as it could be a plot spoiler.

I love the cast of characters. I still think they have the potential to be a great ensemble cast we the series continues and we get to know them better.

Pearl Hewitt does another great job narrating the audiobook. I had no problems with the accent this time.

If you love paranormal cozy mysteries then you should read this series.
