It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

I was hoping to have my review of The Forgotten Cottage for today, but I had some very special guests arrive at my house yesterday - I offered to foster a mom cat with her 5 two-week-old babies. They are adorable and the mom cat is a total people cat so I had trouble leaving the room and she didn't like me dividing my attention between her and my book.

I finished a couple of audiobooks last week:

Helen Keller in Love by Rosie Sultan has been on my TBReview pile for a very long time. I just couldn't get into the book the few times I tried to read it. I saw the audiobook at my digital library and I was in between books so I decided to give it a try. I enjoyed the audiobook. As the story is in first person, it felt like Keller was talking to you. I published my review on Saturday.

Right before the kitties arrived on Sunday, I finished Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver, Steven Hopp, and Camille Kingsolver. I had started reading the book but just couldn't find the time between all my review copies to make much progress. When I had renewed the book 2 times (meaning I had the book 6 weeks) and had only read 4 chapters, I decided to get the audiobook. It is about a family's journey to eat as locally and sustainably as they could for a year. The authors read the audiobook themselves which gave the narrative an even more personal feel. It is interesting. I had taken a few courses in sustainable agriculture during my graduate studies so a lot of the information wasn't new to me but I still found it informative.

I'm working on two books this week:

I'm almost finished with The Forgotten Cottage by Courtney Ellis. I have less than 10% left to read. It is a dual timeline story with one timeline set during WWI and the other in present day. I'm really enjoying the story and secrets that are being uncovered in the past. The WWI story reminds me a little of Downton Abbey with Emilie being a lot like Lady Sybil. I hope to have my review posted on Thursday. I received an e-ARC via Netgalley.

My audiobook for the week is Girl, Forgotten by Karin Slaughter. I'm loving this book. It is a dual timeline story so while I know which characters are in the present and which are in the 1980s, I keep forgetting the time period for the storyline in the past. Thankfully there are a few references, like the fact Reagan is president, that help to bring the time period to mind. It comes out next Tuesday (Aug. 23) and I plan to post my review that day. What I'll read next:

I probably won't start a new audiobook this week as Girl, Forgotten is almost 16 hours long, but if I do it will be the book for my post-apocalyptic book club - On Such a Full Sea by Chang-rae Lee. My next ebook will be Blooms & Dreams: Cultivating Wellness, Generosity & a Connection to the Land by Misha Gillingham

Gillingham is a travel writer who has now penned this book about life on her farm. I'm looking forward to reading it. I'm going to try a fall vegetable garden for the first time so I'm hoping for some inspiration. I received an e-ARC via Edelweiss.

So that's how my week is looking reading-wise. I also plan to spend a lot of time cuddling kittens and caring for the mom cat (in addition to my own 6 cats). What are you looking forward to this week?
