Family Fun and Reindeer Games

by Donna Huber

Kids will soon be home for the holidays. You don't want to be the parents in the song "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas." (You know the lyric: "And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again".) If you have really young children, check out the list of current and classic Christmas books. If your kids are a little older, here are some fun books for the whole family to join in reindeer games.

What would make a day full of reindeer games even more fun? Cookies, of course. Here is a quick and easy (and delicious) recipe.

Almond Joy Cookies

1 bag (14 oz) of coconut flakes
1 bag (10 oz) of chocolate chips (I used dark chocolate)
1 can (14 oz) of sweetened condensed milk
1 cu chopped almonds

Preheat oven to 325°F. Mix together all ingredients in a large bowl. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Drop a spoonful of cookie mixture on the cookie sheet and flatten to make a disc. Bake 12 - 14 minutes until coconut is golden brown. Cool on the cookie sheet at least 10 minutes before moving to a wire rack (if you need the cookie sheet for the next batch, you can cool for 5 minutes and then transfer the parchment paper and cookies to a wire rack to continue to cool). Store in an airtight container.
