I read Chasing the Clouds Away while I was on vacation. I read most of it during a long train ride, and it was a great way to pass the time.
Romance is not one of my favorite genres, but I know that Macomber's romance novels will be clean reads. The characters don't do more than kiss.
While it was an enjoyable read, it isn't one of my favorite books. It was a little too predictable. That's not necessarily a bad thing in a summer 'beach read" as it makes it a quick read. I saw the obstacle that would drive the two characters apart coming early on. Thankfully, it wasn't too long-lived.
There were a few story problems that irked me. Like, Maisy's mom must work in a small school district. When my mom was a substitute teacher, she could work every day of the school year. So it didn't ring true that the work was sporadic (unless she wasn't a very good substitute teacher). These issues were small, nitpicking things that I probably wouldn't have noticed if it weren't a romance novel (I can be overly critical of romance novels).
I liked Maisy for the most part. I kind of felt she was a little too "woe is me" at times. The chemistry between her and Chase worked, and they make a cute couple.
If you are looking for a cute story to relax with this summer, then this is an entertaining read that doesn't cause anxiety or angst.
