Hazel left her hometown of Idless in the English countryside years ago, but is now returning after a traumatic divorce. She plans to lay low at her parents’ vacated house and reconnect with her prickly sister Cathy. When she doesn't show up, Cathy is surprised and wonders what went wrong. Other people in town whisper of a threat, and the woods are known for being restless and keeping whatever it takes.

Hazel is distraught by the divorce, has emotional difficulties, and hopes to reconnect with her sister. Her thread of the story becomes tracking her state of mind and her attempts to escape. Cathy and Hazel's childhood friend Suzie, begins gathering clues that something terrible happened to her, even if there's nothing concrete to give the police. The two threads of the story each carry tension before they finally cross in the finale. I was glued to the book, and I had to keep reading to the end to find out what happened. It's a story that will undoubtedly keep you up at night.

Born and raised in New York City, M.K. French started writing stories when very young, dreaming of different worlds and places to visit. She always had an interest in folklore, fairy tales, and the macabre, which has definitely influenced her work. She currently lives in the Midwest with her husband, three young children, and a golden retriever.
