Women's fiction is one of the most popular genres. Their focus on strong, independent women who still struggle with life's ups and downs is something most people can relate to and find inspiration in their stories. If you are looking for something to read in this genre then definitely pick up these two books.

The Wishing Tree Series Books 1 - 7 ~ a Review

by Susan Roberts

The Wishing Tree series is a new series of twelve books all based on people in Lindin Falls, Vermont, and written by different authors.  Lindin Falls is famous for its huge Linden tree that everyone calls the wishing tree.  The belief is that if you hang a wish on the tree, it will come true.  There are lots of skeptics but many others have had their wishes come true so people come from miles around to put their wishes on the tree.  Love, forgiveness, and other happily ever afters are all made possible when someone takes a chance and hangs a wish from a branch.

Wishes in branches tied with string. Someone's hopes. Another's dreams.

Two Excellent Novels Highlight Women in the Progressive Era

by Donna Huber

The early twentieth century in the United States was a period of great change both in terms of technology/industry as well as social issues. The period of the 1890s up through WWI has been coined the Progressive Era with prohibition, segregation, women's suffrage, urbanization, and immigration all being hot topics of the time. Against the backdrop of these issues at home, a war began to rage in Europe that the U.S. would eventually be drawn into. I recently read two excellent novels that highlight these social issues through strong and determined female characters.

A Good Measure is a beautifully written story about family, friendship, and love. Families face changes constantly and this book looks at coping with grief at the loss of a spouse, changing relationships with children, and how to love your children no matter how they live their lives.  It's an emotional look at many parts of life that we all face.
