I've been reading Pamela Kelley's books (both the summer and the Christmas ones) for a few years. I love reading books set on Nantucket, and I've enjoyed Kelley's books.
The Nantucket Inn kind of bridges the gap between a Christmas book and a summer beach read. I feel like this would be great to read at a ski lodge (I know I thoroughly enjoyed it while watching it snow this weekend). It begins just before Christmas and runs mainly through April, though the ending jumps ahead a couple of months to June.
I liked the characters, though there are a lot of them. I had a little trouble keeping straight who was who, especially the ones with names that started with the same letter.
I thought this would be more along the lines of women's fiction. The summary states that Lisa is struggling financially due to her late husband's gambling problem (that she didn't know about), and then, in the opening chapters, we have Kate being laid off from her magazine job and finding her fiancé in bed with a model. So I was all geared up for the journey of these two women finding what they really wanted in life. However, the story actually focused more on the characters' romantic relationships.
It is a clean romance; none of the characters do anything more than kiss. So I appreciated that. There's also not a lot of angst. I was a little worried when the ex-wife showed up at Lisa's B&B, but it was so late in the book that I figured if she was there to cause trouble, it would be brief.
I mentioned that the cast of characters is large. In addition to Lisa and Kate, there is also Kate's sisters Kristen and Abby, and their brother Chase. Chase is barely in the story. I guess they needed someone to do construction. Actually, at the end of this book, it is mentioned that Chase will be more prominent in the next book.
If you are looking for a light romance, set on a beautiful island, then this would be a great book to pick up.
