In case you didn't know, Anne Perry died in 2023. She was in the process of writing this novel and finished 9 chapters before she passed. Friend and member of Perry's writing team, Victoria Zackheim, finished the novel based on the detailed outline and discussions they had about the novel.
I have read a few of Anne Perry's other books - mostly her Christmas stories, but also a couple of the Elena Standish novels. I haven't read any of her Daniel Pitt books, even though I think he made an appearance in one of the Christmas books I read.
Though Death Time Seven is book 7 in the series, I had no problem starting with this book, which I enjoyed greatly. The intriguing mystery, courtroom drama, and character interactions had me devouring this book. It read way too quickly. Thankfully, I have 6 books in this series to read, and I hope to find the time to read them (my library has the whole series!)
I did have the motive figured out for the suspected murder-suicide way before the characters thought of it (I was 80% throuogh the book by the time they mentioned it). I also picked out the murderer, sort of. I figured the character was involved in some way, not necessarily that the person was a murderer.
Even with figuring these things out early, I enjoyed the character interactions so much that I didn't mind following their investigation as they finally got to the conclusion.
I'm not sure if Zackheim has any plans to continue with the series, but the ending was satisfying if this is indeed the last Daniel Pitt novel.
Whether you have been following this series or looking for a great investigative courtroom drama, you will want to read this book.
