Inheritance by Nora Roberts
Why Read It: Inheritance is book 1 in The Lost Bride Trilogy. If you are looking a binge-read, all three books are available. Based on Susan's review, that's a good thing: "The ending was a real shocker and I can't wait to see how book 2 handles it." She also reviewed books 2 and 3.

The Story: A stormsinger and pirate hunter join forces against a deathless pirate lord in this swashbuckling Jacobean adventure on the high-seas.
Why Read It: This is another trilogy that you can binge-read. In her review, MK called the books, tense, engrossing, and enthralling.

Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay
The Story: It was a cloudless summer day in the year 1900. Everyone at Appleyard College for Young Ladies agreed it was just right for a picnic at Hanging Rock. After lunch, a group of three girls climbed into the blaze of the afternoon sun, pressing on through the scrub into the shadows of the secluded volcanic outcropping. Farther, higher, until at last they disappeared. They never returned.
Why Read It: My extended family used to do a big bonfire around Halloween and the kids would try to scare each other. I can imagine a story like this being told around a campfire. It is spooky and strange enough to get the heart rate up but not scary enough that you have to sleep with the lights on. Check out my review.

The Story: A sweeping, atmospheric thriller following a group of friends and the power given to them by the trees.
Why Read It: While I didn't love the audiobook, the story is the perfect read for a thrilling Halloween. Read my review.
