Fit For Flight by Casey P. Zack and Shelby P. Zack ~ a Review

by MK French

Whether you're a flight attendant or frequent flyer, you are always on the go. Any career that involves constant travel - and thus includes multiple time zone changes, long flights, hotel living, trekking through busy airports and tackling transportation in a new city - makes learning how to manage a daily routine and maintain a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle frustrating if not seemingly impossible. It's difficult to maintain an exercise and diet routine without adding travel to the mix. With flights and travel, it usually is nearly impossible. Shelby is a flight attendant and Casey is a personal trainer, so together they crafted a guide with exercise routines and tips, eating out in new cities, even how to pack, do self-care and save money while on the go.

This guide is relatively slim, which is great for bringing it with you, and the sisters understand the practicality of life on the go. Yes, there is the usual advice of portion sizes, but they actually provide visuals in the form of parts of your hand to help you visualize it. They also provide lists of snacks that can be brought with you, limiting the need to buy expensive and unhealthy meals in airports, as well as advice on the choices to make when in restaurants. Even drink choices are discussed, as well as alternating them with water to reduce bloat and remain hydrated. They also encourage you not to give up if there is a day at the buffet, keeping the focus on fitness rather than caloric intake. That same philosophy applies to exercise, and they include sample ideas that you can do in a hotel room with or without weights. There are lists of various techy items that travelers might want to bring with them if they don't want to be at the mercy of whatever is on-site at their destination. Practical tips like what to bring and how to pack some items round out this book.

There are lots of travel guides out there, but this is a useful and general one that can apply no matter where you're flying to. It's also great advice for working in exercise and good nutrition on a daily basis.

She always had an interest in folklore, fairy tales, and the macabre, which has definitely influenced her work. She currently lives in the Midwest with her husband and three young children.

  3. Wish I had read this before our recent trip. I always try to bring snacks and plenty of water on road trips, but all the eating out at restaurants can be tough. I'll have to see if my library has a copy of this.

    1. Oh, it's definitely a tougher time to think of this while eating at restaurants. The portions are huge!

  4. Sounds like a useful book for those with a lot of travel on their schedule. Based on the small spaces in hotel rooms, a lot of it may apply to college students as well. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I think the exercise and packing advice would be great for college students, as well as portion control. Facing a big menu or a buffet is tough!
