Sue's 2019 Reading Results and 2020 Plans

by Susan Roberts

I started 2020 in the hospital with pneumonia so I'm way behind with my view back at 2019 and my reading plans for 2020.

Top Reads of 2019

I read 217 books in 2019 which (according to Goodreads) was 69,054 pages.  There were some wonderful books and here are my top books -- I couldn't make it a top 10 so here are my top 16 (in no order by preference)

The Irishman's Daughter by VS Alexander
The Words Between Us by Erin Bartels
The last List of Miss Judith Krantz by Andrea Bobotid
Clover Blue by Eldonna Edwards
The Forgiving Kind by Donna Everhart
All Manner of Things by Susie Finkbeiner
Annelies by David Gilham
The Favorite Daughter by Patti Callahan Henry
The Mother in Law by Sally Hepworth
Tell Me a Story by Cassandra King
Song Birds and Stray Dogs by Megan Lucas
Tomorrow's Bread by Anna Jean Mayhew
The House by the Cypress Trees by Elaine Miklesen
The Huntress by Kate Quinn
True Places by Sonja Yoerg
The Bright Unknown by  Elizabeth Byler Younts

Additional Information about my 2019 Books

  • My top category of books that I read was historical fiction, followed closely by southern fiction and psychological suspense.
  • I read 12 nonfiction books
  • I did not finish 11 books
  • 8% of my books were by male authors
  • 10% of my books were debut authors
Overall I am very pleased with my 2019 results.

My 2020 plans

  • Read 220 books.  This isn't a large increase over 2019 but we have lots of travel plans this year.
  • Read 15 non-fiction books.
  • Read 15 books about Middle-Eastern or Far East culture.  My reading usually takes place in the US or Europe.

My last goal is going to be tough since I love buying books. I need to read more books from the ones that I currently own and reduce the number of books on my bookcases. I'm not sure how I'll track that except I will have fewer stacks of books on the floor.

Do you have 2020 reading plans?  I'd love to get some different ideas on how to diversify my reading.

  1. We share the same Goodreads goal. And I’m hoping to read more nonfiction too.
