Temporary Wife Temptation by Jayci Lee

I read a lot of romance novels this month, which makes sense since it's February. :) I would pick Temporary Wife Temptation for this month, as much as I really adore Regency romances and "Things In Jars." I was admittedly reading it because of its Asian heroes, and the story sucked me in. I may have to read more contemporary romances because of this book! Read my review of Temporary Wife Temptation. ~ MK

Garrett Song is this close to taking the reins of his family’s LA fashion empire…until the Song matriarch insists he marry her handpicked bride first. To block her matchmaking, he recruits Natalie Sobol to pose as his wife. She needs a fake spouse as badly as he does. But when passion burns down their chaste agreement, the flames could destroy them all. (Goodreads)

Wildland by Rebecca Hodge

This debut about a woman and two small children trying to escape a wildfire in the Blue Ridge Mountains was a real page-turner.  Kat has rented a cabin off the beaten track for a month while she decides whether to have chemo to fight her re-occurrence of breast cancer.  She has two neighbor kids for a sleepover and when she wakes in the morning, she realizes that there is a wildfire consuming the land between them and the road out.  She decides that they will head into the woods to try to get ahead of the fire.  As she, two kids and 2 dogs are trying to find a good way out of the forest, the children's dads have a helicopter and are trying to find them on the ground.  This is a heart-pounding novel of bravery, sacrifice, and self-discovery, and will keep you on the edge of your seat to the very last page. Read my review of Wildland. ~ Susan

When Kat Jamison retreats to the Blue Ridge Mountains, she's counting on peace and solitude to help her make a difficult decision. Her breast cancer has returned, but after the death of her husband, her will to fight is dampened. Now she has a choice to make: face yet another round of chemotherapy or surrender gracefully.

Self-reflection quickly proves impossible as her getaway is complicated by a pair of abandoned dogs and two friendly children staying nearby, Lily and Nirav. In no time at all, Kat's quiet seclusion is invaded by the happy confusion of children and pets.

But when lightning ignites a deadly wildfire, Kat's cabin is cut off from the rest of the camp, separating Lily and Nirav from their parents. Left with no choice, Kat, the children, and the dogs must flee on foot through the drought-stricken forest, away from the ravenous flames. As a frantic rescue mission is launched below the fire line, Kat drives the party deeper into the mountains, determined to save four innocent lives. But when the moment comes to save her own, Kat will have to decide just how hard she's willing to fight to survive--and what's worth living for.

A heart-pounding novel of bravery, sacrifice, and self-discovery, Wildland will keep you on the edge of your seat to the very last page. (Goodreads)

Rapid Falls by Amber Cowie

Rapid Falls
This was probably my most difficult month for deciding on my favorite read. I some good books, but none of them really stands out from the crowd. I'm going to choose the audiobook Rapid Falls from all the books I read this month as the best of the bunch. It really kept my attention as the secrets and lies of the past are unraveled in the present. I enjoyed the characters and I only disliked the ending because I always root for the underdog. ~ Donna

Forgive and forget? The past and present collide for two sisters who survived a tragedy—and must now survive the truth behind it.

It’s been twenty years since Cara’s boyfriend died in a horrible accident and her sister, Anna, went to prison. The tragedy has become a local legend, but Cara has moved past her grief to have a successful career and a happy family. Pity about Anna. Recently released from incarceration, she’s struggling with addiction, guilt, and shame—a shattered life. Cara’s forgiveness seems to be the only thing that helps her pick up the pieces.

But as Anna pulls herself together, her memories of that night on the bridge start to come into focus. And few of them match her sister’s.

As past secrets unfold and nothing is what it seems anymore, Anna desperately searches for the truth. But what if Cara doesn’t want her to find it? (Goodreads)
