Grizelda “Zelda” Watson was once one of the most formidable witches in the he supernatural world, and everyone talked about her infamous pranks. After one went awry, Zelda left her old life behind. Now she doesn't use magic and won't hang out with vampires since they’re bad influences. She's followed these rules for almost a decade, but a gorgeous vampire with amnesia shows up on her doorstep with a note from her old friend Reggie. He has a journal full of seemingly random locations, so Peter Elliott has no way to recover his memories. Zelda agrees to help decipher the notes, then join him on a road trip. As they travel, the truth of their pasts surfaces, and Zelda and Peter will find that the other might be the key to the answers they’re looking for.

Zelda had a fearsome reputation based on rumored antics that she capitalized on, but she never intended to hurt innocent people. When she did, even though no one died, she left abruptly and became an ordinary yoga teacher. Her friend Reggie is a vampire, so he sends Peter her way since the only thing he remembered at the time was that he wanted to see California. The road trip is full of romance novel tropes, making it lots of fun to read as they go through locations in the journal to figure out Peter's past. Of course, they're attracted to each other, and people keep assuming they're a couple. Do we know where this is going? Yes, we do. Do we mind? Absolutely not, it's adorable and the look into both of them as they figure out Peter's past and the threatening notes following them. We get a fun happily ever after, knowing that they're both good for each other.
