When I saw the audiobook for Edam and Weep was available for review, I realized I had somehow missed a couple of books in Linda Reilly's Grilled Cheese Mysteries series. The ebook and print edition of this book came out this summer, so it was really good luck that the audiobook from Dreamscape Media is just now coming out.
Now, if you are like me and missed a few books or are just now discovering the series, it is just fine to jump into the series with this book. If you are a fan who never misses a book in the series, you will be pleased to see some returning characters as well as the wedding of the main character Carly to Ari. There is also a lot of focus on family, so we get to know these characters better.
The mystery is okay but it kind of takes a backseat to some of the other things going on in the book. I really liked the storyline with Ari's sister. I mentioned a wedding, and I thought it might take more of a front row seat (like when Lindsay and Mike married in Jenn McKinlay's Library Lovers series).
Edam and Weep is the second book in the series that I have listened to, and Mia Gaskin does a wonderful job with all the characters. The story is easy to follow, even with some distractions, as I took care of various tasks while listening.
I thought with all the focus on Paris that the featured sandwich might be a take on Cordon Bleu. Instead, it is another cheesy sandwich that sounded good too. Usually, this story makes me crave a grilled cheese sandwich, but they talked about a tuna melt sandwich a lot, which I find kind of gross (I do not want my tuna warm or served with melted cheese).
Overall, this is an enjoyable book.
