One of my favorite cozy mystery series to listen to is the Meg Langslow series by Donna Andrews. Berndatte Dunne does a wonderful job as the narrator. There are a lot of characters in this series, but they each have their own distinct voice.
I came to this series way late. I started with book 32. Probable Caws is book 39. I've had no problem jumping into this series. Some day I will probably go back and read the earlier books, but for now I'm enjoying it as a new book comes out.
While I've only read/listened to a handful of the books in the series, this one might be my favorite.
One of the reasons I like this series is the community. I like how they all pull together. And this book, with the rescue horses in need, really showcases the close-knit community. There aren't a lot of "other" characters in this book, and even all the regular characters aren't there, so the cast is a little pared down. It really feels like you are meeting up with friends.
Meg is also less stressed in this book. She never once mentions her notebook that keeps her life on schedule. I liked the more relaxed version of Meg.
If you are looking for a book with warm fuzzies (even though there is a dead body), then this is the book to pick up.
