The Vineyard Next Door: Review of a New Trilogy by Michelle Major

by Susan Roberts

The Vineyard Next Door trilogy follows Emma Sullivan and Ethan Fox across three books as they fight their way from a forbidden first kiss to a hard-won happily ever after, tangling with feuding families, small-town gossip, and their own stubborn hearts along the way. It’s a slow-burn, second-chance romance best read in order.

Nothing But Trouble

ebook, print (202 pages); romance

Five minutes before saying I do, I walked out on my fiancé in front of the entire town.
Now everyone thinks I'm the villain of this story. Everyone except Ethan Fox.

Emma sees Ethan Fox for the first time in years when she is running away from her wedding to his brother, Blake, and falls and sprains her ankle.  Ethan was the town’s bad boy and had been a major bully to her in high school, and she definitely isn’t happy that he is the person to pick her up and take her home.  The cancelled wedding is more than a problem for Emma.  She is the mayor of the small town of Foxridge where there has been a decades-long feud between the Foxes and the Sullivans.  The wedding between Emma Sullivan and Blake Fox was the social event of the year, and the town believed that it would end the feud between the families.  When Emma ran out on the wedding, the town was angry with her and blamed her, even though in reality she had caught her almost-groom being unfaithful to her right before the wedding.  So, we have Emma as the town sweetheart that everyone is mad at, Blake as the rejected groom that the town has sympathy for, and Ethan as the bad-boy brother who has returned for what he plans to be a very short time.  Will the sparks between Emma and Ethan ignite a romance, and will the town ever forgive Emma?

Too Much Temptation

book cover of small town romance novel Too Much Temptation by Michelle Major
September 2026; Romilda House; 979-8172921339
ebook, print (200 pages); romance

I'm finally building a life that's mine, and the last thing I have room for is Ethan Fox slipping back into it.

Emma and Ethan have finally admitted their feelings for each other.  After years of not trusting Ethan, she begins to feel trust in him and in their future.  Emma is still too busy taking care of the town and trying to make everyone else happy, and at times forgets about her happiness, but falling in love with Ethan makes her rethink her priorities.  Then Ethan falls back into his old habits of disappearing with no explanation, and Emma has to rethink her future.  This book was tough, and I really felt sorry for Emma – when she finally begins to trust Ethan again, he disappears, and she realizes that there is no future with him.  Her mind understands that, but her heart still yearns for him.  While all of this is going on, she is running for re-election as mayor and realizes that she needs to take care of the whole town and not follow her grandmother’s outdated rules that were set up to counteract the decades-long feud.  Will Emma find happiness??

Made for Forever

book cover of small town romance novel Made for Forever by Michelle Major
September 2026; Romilda House; 979-8172921957
ebook, print (196 pages); romance

I have exactly one rule these days: no more Fox men. After Ethan walked out and took my heart with him, I rebuilt my life around my town and family, and a firm no-falling-in-love policy.

Just when Emma has convinced herself that she is over Ethan, he comes back to town and wants another chance.  She is firm in her decision and basically tells him that he has run out of chances.  Who is the young boy that Ethan has brought home and appears to be parenting?  How can someone who has hurt her so badly impress her so much with his attempts to be a good father figure and his kinder and gentler ways of trying to win her back?   There may be another man in the picture now and Ethan realizes that he needs to work extra hard to convince Emma that he is the best choice of the two of them but is the time she is spending with the other man about her needs or the needs of her town to get new business to Foxridge?  Ethan doesn’t know but he knows that he has to do everything he can to win Emma back because he realizes having Emma in his life is the only way he’ll find happiness in his future.  Will Ethan be successful and will Emma change her mind and give him another chance?

This was a fun series to read.  I liked the character of Emma in all three books.  I wasn’t really sure about Ethan at the beginning but he made so many changes that he ended up being the perfect man for Emma.  There are also several very interesting secondary characters that make this series even more fun to read.  I highly recommend these three books if you want a solid story with a well-deserved happily ever after for the characters.
