WWII Fiction to Read for Women's History Month

It's no secret that Susan and I love WWII fiction. The last few years there has been a shift in telling the stories of women during this time period. Some of that has to do with the fact that people have been released from Official Secrets Act (so kids are finding out that their mothers and grandmothers weren't just secretaries during the war but code breakers and spies). I love finding these stories that tell a piece of history that has largely been overlooked. If you are wanting to read something for Women's History Month, but aren't too keen on non-fiction, I've put together a list of some of my favorite WWII fiction featuring women. Some of these are newer while others are a few years old.

4 More World War II Stories

Like a lot of people, I've had extra time to read during the pandemic.  Even though the stay-at-home orders have loosened some, I still stay in as much as possible due to my age and underlying health issues.  I've always viewed World War II as a time that all Americans worked together for the common good of America, unlike the current crisis where it appears that America is more divided than ever. With that comparison in mind, I pulled several World War II books off my shelves and here are my reviews.

The Lieutenant's Nurse by Sara Ackerman @AckermanBooks ~ a Review

The Lieutenant's Nurse takes place in 1941 when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and started their war with the United States. Along with the story, there are copies of messages that were sent from Japan to their navy and the pilots before the attack started which made the story more realistic. Over 2400 people were killed when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. This number includes the US military, the Japanese pilots, the nurses and the civilians. There were less than 100 nurses working the hospital at Pearl Harbor when the attack happened and they were totally overwhelmed with the number of causalities that were brought to the hospital. Hawaii had been considered one of the easiest and most beautiful places to work as a nurse but after the attack, it was no longer viewed that way.
