A Killer Getaway by Sienna Sharpe ~ a Review

by MK French

Lily has left behind her successful business for the past five summers to work as a lifeguard in the exclusive Caribbean-based Riovan Wellness Resort. Friends can't figure out why she'd do this, but it's because she secretly makes toxic people pay the ultimate price for the damage they do to others. She's been getting away with murder for five years, but now the very attractive Daniel Black is asking questions and getting closer to the truth. Keeping him close might unravel all her plans, because he's just as determined to find the murderer as she is to continue.

audio, ebook, print (320 pages); romantic suspense

We start with her trip to the Riovan, and she's already unsettled compared to prior years. There are changes even prior to meeting Daniel, as well as flashes of the past. Slowly, we get the sense of Lily's actual purpose at the resort, and we get a behind-the-scenes look at how it's run. She's used to hiding in the drama, but it's not enough at this point; even narcissistic people eventually notice patterns around them. Daniel is smarter than most, and the two dance around each other as Lily tries to decide on a victim and method.

Lily's conflicts about what she's doing, as well as flashes of the past driving her, make her more likable than you'd expect a murderer to be. She's got a method to the madness, and genuinely trying to help others softens what could have been a complete sociopath. Her voice in this is vivid and relatable, and I really liked her. It was a fun book, just a dash of true crime in the midst of summer fun.
