Have you started on your Christmas reading list? I've seen people on social media requesting recommendations of books to read for Christmas. Before I was a book reviewer, I was strict about not starting Christmas books until after Thanksgiving dinner. But since they start coming out in September, I've been a little more relaxed on that, though I still have a long list of ones to start reading Thursday evening. Whether you are just starting to build your list or you are ready to start the binge reading, you don't want to miss these two books.

A Ferry Merry Christmas by Debbie Macomber

| October 2025; Ballantine Books; 978-0593974674 audio, ebook, print (272 pages); holiday romance |
Debbie Macomber is one of my favorite authors of Christmas books. I thought I was going to save this book to kick off my Christmas reading after Thanksgiving, but I got an itch to read Christmas books (life is kind of stressful, and Christmas books always make me feel better).
This book was just what I needed. It had a vibe similar to Dashing Through the Snow, which is one of my favorite Macomber books. I think it is because both storylines had people who were stranded on their way to celebrate Christmas.
I liked that it wasn't just focused on one couple. From the book description, it sounds like it's all about Avery and her brother Reed. They are heavily focused on, but we also have a mother who is estranged from her husband, who just happens to be on the same broken-down ferry. And then there is the man whose wife has just gone into labor with their first child. He's desperate to get home as they've just moved to the area and she has no one else.
There are a few meet-cute moments, and the story is sweet. You know everyone is going to have a happily-ever-after, but that is what a feel-good novel is all about. If you need a little help turning grumbly and stress into holiday cheer, then you should read this book.

A Holly Brown Christmas by Samantha Chase

| November 2025; Dreamscape Media; 9798349107146 audio (6h 37m), ebook, print; holiday romance |
I don't read a lot of romance novels, but I still enjoy holiday romances (as long as they aren't too steamy).
I listened to Samantha Chase's holiday romance last year: Baking It Merry was cute, so I thought I would give this year's book a try.
A Holly Brown Christmas is pretty predictable, but that doesn't make it any less fun.
The company Christmas party is being downsized this year because the owners are getting divorced, but Holly can't let go of the tradition, especially since it would mean not getting to spend time with Lucas Brooks. Since she has helped in years past to set up the party, she is sure that with a little help from Lucas, she can pull it off.
I'm sure you know what happens, but it is cute as Lucas and Holly work together, and it's heartwarming as other people pitch in to make the event happen.
The audiobook was easy to listen to. Sarah Welborn does a great job giving each character their own voice. There is only a little steam, so if you are like me and don't like listening to steamy scenes in public, you should be okay with this book.
This is a great book to transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas, as the book starts just before Thanksgiving. Get it now so that you can enjoy it while recovering from your turkey coma.
