The Kitchen Counter Cooking School is one of those books I requested via Netgalley when I first started blogging and hadn't worked out a good system of keeping track of books to review. It archived before I could read it. While looking through my digital library for audiobooks, I ran across the title and thought it would be a great opportunity to try it.

Collecting tales from the people as well as recipes along the way, Carole describes local festivals, the towns, and the legacy of World War I and World War II on the regions, even seventy-five years later.

They went through the countryside with the intention of learning about cuisine pauvre, the everyday peasant-style cooking that the people use, as well as the stories and traditions of the families there.
