5 Summer Books To Read During the Dog Days of Summer

by Donna Huber

Schools in my area are already back in session - some have already finished their first week of classes! Summer went so quickly and I know I didn't read all the summer books I had hoped to get to. What about you? Perhaps you were busy entertaining kids during vacations that you didn't get to pick up one of this summer's blockbuster novels. Now they are back in school and you have the time (or at least can catch a few minutes of reading while waiting in the car pick-up line). Or maybe you are enjoying the last weeks of summer with a trip to the beach or lake. Here are 5 of the best summer books that you want to read during the dog days of summer.

by Donna Huber

Today is officially the first day of summer. You may be skipping the trip to the beach, pool, or lake this summer, but it doesn't mean you have to skip the beach reads. Find a cozy spot in your yard or on your porch and relax for a few hours with one of these books.

Girls of Summer by Nancy Thayer ~ a Review

A few weeks ago Susan mentioned which book signals the start of summer. For me, summer starts when I have in my hands Nancy Thayer's latest beach read. As this weekend is the unofficial start of summer in the U.S., it is fitting that Girls of Summer hits shelves on Tuesday.

Surfside Sisters by Nancy Thayer ~ a Review

by Donna Huber

I fell in love with Nancy Thayer's writing when I read The Guest Cottage (read my review), but I haven't had the chance to pick up any of her other books (I bought The Island House last summer in hopes of getting it read. Maybe this year). Because I so wanted to read another one of her wonderful Nantucket tales, I stalked NetGalley until I saw this summer's book, Surfside Sisters, listed.

The Islanders by Meg Mitchell Moore ~ a Review

by Susan Roberts

On Block Island this summer you'll find
-Ocean water the color of the Caribbean
-365 ponds (one for each day of the year)
-Ice cream, sunscreen, bikes with wicker baskets

AND

-One famous writer hiding from a big mistake
-One bakery owner with off-island competition
-One stay-at-home mom with a secret job

Now that summer is here I find myself enjoying light beach reads. If it's about the beach, I want to give it a try. The Islanders fit my summer reading requirements perfectly. There are three main interesting characters, some mystery, some romance and lots of sand and water! Perfect!

Queen Bee by Dorothea Benton Frank @DorotheaFrank ~ a Review

by Susan Roberts

I have been a fan of Dorothea Benton Frank since I read her first book twenty years. When you start her books you know that you'll be back in the Lowcountry of South Carolina with a bunch of quirky characters and a great plot that will make you want to pack your bags and head to the beach.

5 Audiobooks for Road Trip Reading

by Donna Huber

Road trip season is almost here. I've always thought it would be fun to do a cross country road trip; however, I hate driving so it is unlikely I will ever take such a trip. If you are hitting the road this summer, I have some audiobook recommendations that will keep you entertained.
