It's Time for the 25 Days of Christmas Reading!

by Donna Huber

We are kicking off our 3rd Annual 25 Days of Christmas Reading. Each day, we will feature reading recommendations, free ebooks, or some other festive goodies. If you aren't into reading Christmas books, we will still have reviews of new and recent releases throughout the month. Keep up with all the Christmas Reading posts and check out the past two years as well.

We have been reviewing new Christmas books since August. I thought we should do a round-up of those books in case you weren't thinking of Christmas reading during the dog days of summer.

Christmas Corpse by Mona Marple

book cover of holiday cozy mystery Christmas Corpse by Mona Marple

Holly Wood (yes, that's her real name) is driving home for Christmas and not feeling too happy about the empty house waiting for her. When her car skids into a snow bank, she's rescued by a sweet old lady who promises her name is Mrs Claus. (Goodreads)

This is an older book, but it just came out as an audiobook this year. If you need something to listen to while driving around, looking at Christmas lights, or checking all the things off your list. It's everything you'd expect in a Christmas cozy mystery. The plot is a little ridiculous, and the characters are a bit quirky. If you don't want the typical Hallmark rom-com Christmas novel, this cozy mystery would be a good alternative. Read my full review. (If you enjoy this one, books 2 through 4 will be released as audiobooks before Christmas; you'll have to wait until the new year for books 5 - 9)

Christmas People by Iva-Marie Palmer

book cover of holiday romance novel Christmas People by Iva-Marie Palmer

Some people are Christmas people, but Jill Jacobs is most certainly not. She hasn’t been ever since her hometown love broke her heart on Christmas Day three years ago. After that, Jill moved to L.A. to pursue her dream of becoming a screenwriter. She hasn’t been home in years to avoid her ex, but this winter she finds herself back in drab, suburban Illinois for the holidays. (Goodreads)

This book reminded me of the movie A Christmas Movie Christmas, but Iva-Marie Palmer puts her own spin on the plot. It is a cute story. I liked that it poked fun at the tropes and predictability we see in Christmas books. I should warn you that there is a bit of language and some steam. Read my review.

You Make It Feel Like Christmas by Sophie Sullivan

book cover of holiday romance novel You Made It Feel Like Christmas by Sophie Sullivan

All bets are off when a single-minded photographer and a professional hockey player are forced to spend a week together on his sister’s Christmas tree farm. (Goodreads)

This is a second-chance romance, with the added cuteness of a Christmas town, a boisterous kid, and the games present at family get-togethers. Read MK's review.

Five Golden Wings by Donna Andrews

book cover of Christmas cozy mystery novel Five Golden Wings by Donna Andrews

Two of Meg’s cousins, members of Mother’s vast Hollingsworth clan, are getting married, and both have chosen Caerphilly for their Christmas destination wedding. . . on the same day, in the same venues. But while they’re cousins they’re also lifelong enemies. Mother’s efforts to keep the peace are wearing her down, and the battling brides (and their mothers) are making the holiday season miserable for everyone. So Meg steps in to keep the peace. And it was going badly even before she stumbles over the murdered body of the wedding photographer. (Goodreads)

I discovered this series a couple of years ago when I wanted a fun Christmas read that wasn't a romance novel. I love the characters of this series, and they are really at the forefront of the story. Sometimes I feel like the mystery is secondary to whatever else is going on in their lives. Christmas is all about friends and family, and this book has that in spades. Read my review.

A Ferry Merry Christmas by Debbie Macomber

book cover of holiday romance novel A Ferry Merry Christmas by Debbie Macomber

A delayed ferryboat brings people together in the best of ways during the holiday season in this enchanting Christmas novel. (Goodreads)

I love Debbie Macomber's Christmas novels. They are so cute and heartfelt. I liked that this one didn't focus solely on one couple, but there were several characters discovering the joy of Christmas. Read my review.

A Holly Brown Christmas by Samantha Chase

book cover of holiday romance novel A Holly Brown Christmas by Samantha Chase

The holidays are Holly Brown’s favorite time of year. There’s nothing she loves more than the fun, festivities and the company Christmas party…namely because it means she gets to spend time with Lucas Brooks—her coworker and her boss’s son. (Goodreads)

If you can't get enough of Hallmark Christmas movies, then you will want to read this book. It is also a good one to kick off your holiday reading with, as it starts just before Thanksgiving. Read my review.

The French Effect by Patricia Sands

book cover of holiday romance novel The French Effect by Patricia Sands

A hopeful and heartwarming journey that reminds us it’s never too late for a second chance. (Goodreads)

Have you dreamed of spending Christmas in Paris? This book will have you packing your bags! Read Susan's review.
