Virtual Author Events

by Susan Roberts

In this day of social distancing and stay at home orders from our government, most bookstores and libraries have been closed.  The result is that there are no author events and authors are struggling to get the word out about their new books.  The outcome is that there are lots of virtual book tours, Zoom meetings, and podcasts.  In the last month, I have interacted with more and different authors than I did by going to in-person author events.  Here are a few of my favorite author events and podcasts.  Please let me know if I've missed any of the good ones so that I can check them out.

Weekly Author Meetings

Friends and Fiction on Facebook - Every Wednesday at 7 with Mary Alice Monroe, Patti Callahan Henry, Mary Kay Andrews, Kristy Woodson Harvey and Kristin Harmel.

Facebook Live Bloom Party - Every Monday at 7.  Various authors that are part of Tall Poppies.

Read It Again Bookstore Online author series - Mary Alice Monroe will be their featured author on May 30.

Reader Meet Writer sponsored by SIBA (Facebook) - various dates in May - Today at 3 pm the guest author is Yaffa S. Santos - A TASTE OF SAGE.

Also, many authors with new books coming out are holding online author events.  Check their Facebook pages to get details.

Other ways to connect with authors

Reading with Robin (Facebook)

Great Thoughts Festival of Books  (Facebook)

Book Reporter Network on Youtube - Watch the video of Bookreporter talking with Viola Shipman (Wade Rouse), author of THE HEIRLOOM GARDEN

Many authors will be part of your book club meeting.  Check out their author pages to get more information. Also, several libraries and bookstores, like E. Shaver, are hosting virtual book clubs if you are looking to connect with other book lovers.

So until we can all get back to our favorite book stores and libraries, give these a try.

If you have anything else to add, please let us know.  I am always looking for ways to learn more about authors and their new books.

Like many of you, I spent March in the house and not able to read due to anxiety over COVID 19.  In April, I was still staying in the house but I read a record number of books. Here it is May and my state started slowly opening up earlier this month. I plan to mostly stay at home and read in May.  In June, I hope to start visiting my favorite bookstores.

Susan Roberts lives in North Carolina when she isn't traveling. She and her husband enjoy traveling, gardening and spending time with their family and friends. She reads almost anything (and the piles of books in her house prove that) but her favorite genres are Southern fiction, women's fiction, and thrillers. Susan is a top 1% Goodreads Reviewer. You can connect with Susan on FacebookGoodreads, or Twitter.
